Here's the test I'd run before touching any marketing. Open your texts, your voicemail, your email and your Facebook messages. Go back 30 days. Count every person who asked about price or availability and never got a second reply from you.

Not a first reply. A second one. Most owners answer the first message fine. It's the "let me check and get back to you" that dies.

Why it happens

Nobody ignores a customer on purpose. You look at the job, you say you'll send the number over, and then a real emergency eats your afternoon. By Thursday, sending it feels awkward. So it quietly doesn't happen.

That's not laziness. That's one person running the front desk, the back office and the actual work, usually all before lunch.

The people who already asked are the cheapest customers you'll ever get.

What it costs

Say a first visit at your place is worth $85, and a happy customer comes back four times a year. That one unanswered text was really closer to $340. Now multiply that by the number you just counted. (Go ahead. I'll wait.)

No ad you run next month is going to work harder than reaching back out to somebody who already wanted to hand you money.

The fix is a habit, not an app

Reply to everyone on the list today

One line works: "Hey, checking back. Are you still looking?" That's the whole script. Some won't answer. Some already went somewhere else. A few will say "yes, actually," and those are sales you didn't have to find.

Pick one time to check every inbox

If people can reach you by text, Instagram, Facebook, Google and email, you've got five inboxes and no system. Check all of them once a day at the same time. It's boring. It works.

Set a before-bed rule

Every message gets some answer before you go to sleep, even "got it, I'll send times in the morning." A short answer tonight keeps them from booking somebody else overnight.

Let AI find who's waiting on you

This is where AI actually earns its keep. Paste a long, messy thread into ChatGPT and ask, "Who in here is waiting on me, and what do they need?" It won't send anything for you. It just makes sure nobody slips through the crack. Leave out anything private, like account numbers.

Your next move

Do the 30-day count tonight and write the number down. Then send the check-back text to every name on it before you spend another dollar on getting new people to find you.
